Now we can calculate the (ecogeographic) representativeness of a germplasm collection
…and this is not only possible but alsovery simple. The fundamental element to determine the representativeness of a germplasm collection is having obtained previously an ELC map for the species to which the collection belongs, which is, in turn, very accessible through the ELCmapas tool.
The ecogeographic representativeness analyses performed by Representa are more useful when the user provides passport data of the collection, and information (location) on the sites where the species occurs coming from external sources. For this purpose, there is a form or table called table of ‘external sources’.
When Representa works with data from external sources, it is able not only to show the part of the ecogeographic diversity that is preserved and the missing records but also to indicate the priority sites to visit in future collecting activities.
